Bulldogs Outlast Timberwolves in Road Shootout, 42–28

Updated: Sep 8

Driggs, ID — August 29, 2025Another week, another long road trip, and another Bulldog victory. The Sandpoint Bulldogs (2–0) went into hostile territory Friday night and came away with a 42–28 win over the Teton Timberwolves, powered by senior quarterback Braden Buckhout’s 5-touchdown performance and a second-half defensive clampdown.

First Half: Trading Blows

Sandpoint set the tone early when Jack Schriber recovered a fumble in the end zone to open the scoring, but Teton quickly answered with a 36-yard run. From there, it was fireworks.

  • Maverick Gomez put on a career night, hauling in touchdown catches of 90 yards and 65 yards in the second quarter. With Teton matching every strike, the game was tied 20–20 heading into halftime.

  • Just before the break, Brock Yarbrough came up clutch with an interception inside the Bulldog 15, preventing the Timberwolves from taking the lead.

Head coach Ryan Knowles said afterward, “Teton is a good operation and we knew it was going to take a lot to bottle up their quarterback… I’m really proud of our guys for everything, including the preparation and how they weathered the storm.”

Second Half: Dawgs Take Control

Coming out of the locker room, Buckhout and Gomez connected again — this time from 37 yards out for their third score of the night. When Teton answered with a 69-yard TD pass and a two-point conversion to take a 28–27 lead, Sandpoint didn’t panic.

  • Buckhout capped a steady 67-yard drive with a 9-yard TD strike to junior Darrin Flanigan, the first of Flanigan’s varsity career. On the two-point try, Buckhout found Jensen Sheetz in the back of the end zone to make it 35–28.

  • In the fourth, Sheetz sealed the deal with a 4-yard touchdown run, his fourth score of the young season.

Defensively, Sandpoint’s front seven came alive with sacks on both 3rd and 4th downs during Teton’s final push. Leaders included Roman Turnbull (9 total tackles, 1 sack, 2 TFLs) and McLain/Hughes combining for key backfield pressure.

Offensive Fireworks

Sandpoint’s attack was nearly unstoppable, rolling up 511 total yards and converting an impressive 73% on third down.

  • QB Braden Buckhout: 15-of-21, 301 yards, 5 TDs, plus 41 rushing yards. For the season, Buckhout is now 34-of-48 (70.8%) for 513 yards and 5 TDs.

  • WR Maverick Gomez: 6 catches, 222 yards, 3 TDs. Gomez is averaging a staggering 134 yards per game this season.

  • WR Brock Yarbrough: 6 catches, 53 yards, 1 TD, plus an interception on defense. Yarbrough has 20 receptions through two games — already over 200 yards.

  • RB Jeremiah Palmer: 8 carries, 83 yards, leading the ground game with 10.4 yards per carry.

  • RB Jensen Sheetz: 18 carries, 66 yards, 1 TD (4 total this season), plus a critical two-point conversion catch.

Defensive Highlights

While the offense stole the show, Sandpoint’s defense bent without breaking:

  • Lucas Garrison added another TFL, continuing his presence in the secondary (10 tackles, 3 TFLs through 2 games).

  • Turnbull leads the team with 23 tackles on the season, already establishing himself as the heartbeat of the defense.

  • Yarbrough’s interception before halftime swung momentum and set up the Dawgs’ second-half dominance.

By the Numbers

  • Sandpoint Total Offense: 511 yards (301 pass, 210 rush)

  • Teton Total Offense: 405 yards (272 pass, 133 rush)

  • 3rd Downs: Sandpoint 11-of-15 (73%) | Teton 2-of-8 (25%)

  • Key Differential: Sandpoint won the turnover battle (1 INT vs. none).

What’s Next

At 2–0, the Bulldogs return home for the first time this season to host Post Falls on Friday, Sept. 5. After two long road trips, fans will finally get to see their team under the War Memorial Field lights — and the Dawgs will be looking to keep their hot start alive.

Final Score: Sandpoint 42, Teton 28

Another long trip, another step forward. This team is proving that no matter the conditions — altitude, heat, or hostile crowds — they find a way to win.
